Clean 365: Take 2

14 grueling days, ~336 hours in the armpit of America, and any ambition I had before I left Utah is lost. I think I left it in a dirty Sprawl-Mart bathroom in Fort Smith on day 3 of my trip.

I’ve been home a week and the duffel bag I used as a closet in my niece’s room is now conveniently hiding in my living-room, the place where things go to be forgotten.

When I left, the house was clean. I was feeling good about my progress. And about your progress. I felt like a sparkly grown-up that kept an orderly home where harmony, peace–and mom’s sanity–abound.

All of my optimism and hope went to pot when I walked through the door Friday morning to rotten pineapple funk and fruit flies (or was it Thursday? I can’t remember anything. Little sleep, late nights, and long days in a dark hospice room can play tricks with one’s sense of time).

A quick survey of the damage revealed toothpaste in the sink, hockey gear strewn about the living-room, mail piled high on the dining table, and dried kitty pee on the bathroom linoleum. Yeah! Good times were waiting for me.

“What’s another pile? ” I thought, and dropped my travel bags to the floor and crawled into my bed.

I’ve been there since.

So here it is, a week later and I am forcing myself– rea.lly.forc.ing.my.self –to write this post. I’ve been dodging WordPress for days, but today, Thursday (or is it Friday?), I shall restore order to this home and take up the business of posting daily. A promise I may later regret.

Commence Clean365: Take two (or is that Clean 365: 2.0?)

And now, friends, I will shelf my pride and request that you drop a little line or two to help me stay motivated. At least for a little while. If I know you’re there, I’ll have a reason to keep posting (unless your silence is a social cue that my updates are lame. In which case–I can take a hint).

Y’all, it’s good to be home.

I kept up the cleaning projects for the most part. Although sometimes I counted sweeping the kitchen floor.

If you start small again, you’ll be back to spic’n'span (is that right? It looks odd), in no time.

Alice, it is spick-and-span.’ Spic and Span’ is a brand name taken from the old english term spick and span-new. Spic and span has become an acceptable way of spelling it, and one source had it like you did. Any way, it means like ‘new’.

I fell off the wagon while you were away. Yes, apparently, I need a good sponsor. Thank you for doing this.

It always takes me a week to re-adjust after a trip away from home. Not the mention the emotional toll your trip probably took on you. I’m glad you’re back to blogging.

I need a good sponsor too. I couldn’t even keep up with my Own blog while u were away. Plus I got really, really sick and that didn’t help anything. I did deep clean my bathroom though, and then fell back into bed with dizziness. Apparently cleaning while you have a temp of 101 isn’t a good thing.

    So glad you are back!!!

I wouldn’t call you a “total sloth,” Mel. Especially since I currently hold that title ;-)
